September 2025 Updates

Share

Assalaamu-alaykum,

September was a busy and impactful month for the team alhamdulillah!

We delivered training, conducted site visits, and prepared for our upcoming in-person DSL Safeguarding workshops.

📚 How to EET* Training

We delivered six training workshops (online and in-person) on How to Effectively Engage Teenagers* (EET) for our partners in Birmingham, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Croydon, Uxbridge, and Slough.

In total:

  • 114 participants registered
  • 11 youth hubs trained
  • Average attendance of 12–15 leaders
  • 50:50 male-female split per session

Some of the key takeaways that leaders particularly helpful to improve their work were:

  • Being authentic with young people helps build trust and positive relationships.
  • Giving leadership opportunities allows young people to plan, make mistakes, and grow.
  • Removing small fees ensures activities are accessible to all families.
  • Exploring grassroots fundraising gives hubs more independence to fund trips, training, and initiatives.
  • Offering multiple touchpoints weekly helps young people stay engaged and develop new skills.
Following on from our in-person workshops, we will deliver a 6 week follow-on online coaching programme to up-skill our partners and help them take their youth engagement to another level inshaAllah.

📍 Site Visits

This month we carried out four site visits across Leicester, Birmingham, and Preston.

Visiting these Youth Hubb’s* allowed us to observe their youth activities, review their structures, and provide tailored advice to strengthen youth engagement.

We saw firsthand how youth leaders are creating safe and engaging spaces for young people to grow, lead, and thrive.

* (ps. do you know why Hubb has the letter ‘b’ written twice?.. comment and tell us, we’d love to hear your answer 👀)

🛡️ DSL & Contextual Safeguarding Training

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training sessions are coming up:

  • 18th & 19th October – London
  • 25th October – Birmingham
  • 1st November – Manchester

This training goes beyond tick-box safeguarding. Leaders will learn contextual safeguarding, which considers social, political, and economic factors affecting young people.

Practical examples from research highlight why this matters:

  • A boy truanting may appear “solved” if he attends school, but without context, serious risks like abuse or bullying could go unnoticed.
  • Non-contextual safeguarding can miss the real needs of young people, whereas our training teaches leaders to respond in the best interests of the child.

Participants will leave with confidence in their DSL responsibilities and practical strategies to safeguard in a meaningful, contextual way.

🌍 External Engagements

On 25th September, our CEO attended the launch of the Muslim Impact Forum in London.

This was an opportunity to connect with sector peers, explore partnerships, and discuss sponsorships for the Awards.

The CEO noted that many attendees were impressed by our progress over the past few years, reflecting the impact of our work across youth hubs.

We are also working behind the scenes on the Muslim Youth Futures Report in collaboration with Goldsmiths. Updates will be shared in the coming months, insha’Allah.

Lastly, we uploaded Ayub’s keynote he delivered at the Muslim Charity Convention 2025 on YouTube and you can watch it here:

💡 Sponsorship opportunities are open. You can support us in celebrating youth leaders and helping build leadership pathways across the UK.

  • Volunteer HR Lead (Part-Time) – Help us improve volunteer recruitment, safeguarding, and HR processes across the organisation.

These roles are a chance to gain practical experience while contributing to youth empowerment.
